MASTER OF ARTS
PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING

The Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Professional Counseling is designed for persons interested in becoming Licensed Professional Counselors (L.P.C.) in the State of Texas. The degree is organized to prepare graduates for coun-seling positions in private or public settings. Graduates may work with either individuals or groups as well as functional and dysfunctional families. The curriculum is comprised of forty-eight (48) graduate hours and includes a minimum of 300 practicum hours. No student may enroll in a practicum course without completing all other degree requirements. Graduates are prepared to provide individual, group, and family counseling in community and social service organizations. In addition, students who complete the program meet the academic requirements for becoming Licensed Professional Counselors (L.P.C.) in the State of Texas. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Professional Development provides a broad-based interdisciplinary curriculum that enables the student to select thirty (30) credit hours of courses from the disciplines of business, communication, counseling, human behavior, and psychology. This degree program provides students with the opportunity of designing an interdisciplinary program of study that brings fields of inquiry together in unique combinations not otherwise offered as a program at the University. Career opportunities are varied and are subject to the course concentration determined by the student and en-able each student to enhance future career goals. Examples of career opportunities include communications, team projects, social sciences, and management. (see degree plan)

SCHOOL COUNSELING

The Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in School Counseling is designed for those students who desire to satisfy the academic requirements for the Professional School Counseling Certification. This degree program is available only to those individuals who satisfy the teaching experience as required by the State Board for Educator Certification (S.B.E.C.). The program is comprised of forty-two (42) graduate hours and includes a minimum of 150 practicum hours. Students completing this program and passing the TExES examination for School Counseling are eligible to be employed as a school counselor in the public, private and parochial educational setting. School Counseling students must satisfy the teaching experience requirement by the State Board for Educator Certification (S.B.E.C.) prior to entering CSL6855 Practicum School Counseling. GENERAL BUSINESS

The Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in General Busi-ness provides a broad-based business curriculum that focuses on developing both analytical business and general managerial skills. The program allows the student to select fifteen (15) credit hours of business administration electives in courses of personal interest. In selecting a major concentration, students may prepare for careers in small business or domestic and international corporations. The degree prepares the student for careers such as marketing, sales and advertising, finance, consulting, project management, and human resources. MANAGEMENT

The Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in Management is offered in both the classroom lecture and distance-learning modes. Professors who teach in the distance-learning mode are the same as those who teach in the classroom. The degree focuses on developing both analytical and human behavioral managerial skills in planning, staffing, organizing, and controlling organizational issues in rapidly changing environments. The program can prepare the student for advanced positions such as financial management, executive management, marketing, sales and advertising, human resources, planning, and consulting. The Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in Strategic Leadership is offered in both the classroom lecture and distance-learning modes. Professors who teach in the distance-learning mode are the same as those who teach in the classroom. The degree focuses on the development of those managerial leadership skills necessary to empower organizations to face challenges, create opportunities, and establish themselves as vital centers for productive work. Students will prepare for leadership positions in areas such as public services, government, healthcare, human resources, education, and the more traditional M.B.A. careers such as management, consulting, and financial services. FAMILY STUDIES

The Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Family Studies is an interdisciplinary degree that includes courses from the disciplines of Human Behavior and Development and Counseling. The student explores the dynamics within families and close relations and the interaction between the family and the larger social system including schools, communities and the larger society. The program emphasizes the philosophy and principles of family life education. The degree enables graduates to identify families in conflict and families with issues in order to help resolve them. Because the subject of family studies is such a universal topic, there is a wealth of organizations designed to deal with family issues. Some opportunities might include social service agencies, religious institutions, parent education programs, juvenile services, day care facilities, foster care programs, and retirement and/or assisted living facilities. HUMAN RELATIONS AND BUSINESS

The Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Human Relations and Business is offered in both the classroom lecture and distance-learning modes. Professors who teach in the distance-learning mode are the same as those who teach in the classroom. The degree provides a broad-based interdisciplinary curriculum that enables the student to select thirty (30) credit hours of courses from the disciplines of business, communication, human behavior, and human development. The program is intended for the student who, while technically accomplished, seeks to further develop skills in human behavior and development. Graduates are prepared to fulfill professional roles that require an understanding of the interface between business principles and human relations skills in public and private settings. Graduates will enhance current job experiences in order to enter or expand their careers in such areas as healthcare, communications, research, human resources, counseling and training and education. HUMAN RESOURCE TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

The Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Human Resource Training and Development is a specialized degree program designed to provide students with those competencies necessary to assess learning needs and design training methodologies for human development within work environments. The degree is designed to enable students to assess an organization's training and devel-opment needs, develop methodologies to address identified needs, and establish an evaluation system by which training program effectiveness can be determined. A primary objective of the program is to enable students to become assessment, training, development, and evaluation specialists. Graduates are prepared to fulfill leadership positions in human resources, staffing, compensation and recruiting, training and development, policy development, conflict management, and in consulting roles in both public and private settings. The Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Managerial Science is a 36 credit hour program designed for working adults who have accomplished success in the work force and have been (or soon will be) promoted to a leadership position. To accomplish the goals of management, students seeking this degree will be able to apply business, organizational, human behavior and communicative skills to effectively accomplish specific objectives. Thus, the degree emphasizes the practical application of people skills, over the technical business skills, to accomplish goals.
