Who can use the Amberton LRC?
The Amberton Library Resource Center is for the exclusive use of Amberton
students and faculty. Users are required to provide proper ID (driver's
license and student ID#) to check out books and use resources, such
as the computer lab.
What are the LRC's operating hours?
When classes are in session:
Monday - Thursday 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm Friday 10:00 am to 1:30 pm Saturday
7:30 am to 3:00 pm
Between sessions:
Monday - Thursday 10:00 am to 6:30 pm Friday - Saturday 10:00 am to
1:30 pm
(Note that the Computer Lab closes 15 minutes earlier than the Library.)
How can I contact the Library?
By phone: 972/279-6511 ext. 136 or 137 By email: library@Amberton.edu
By fax: 972/686-5567
What is the LRC's book return procedure?
During business hours, books may be returned to the Check-out Desk or
placed in the return slots just outside each library door. After hours
when the facility is closed, books may be returned to the University
Drop Box located near the southwest entrance of the building (near the
Admission and Student Advising Office). Fines are assessed for books
that are returned past the due date.
What is the LRC's fine schedule?
The fine schedule is posted on the dated bookmark placed within each
book when it is checked out. The schedule is also posted in the Current
Schedule of Classes under "Financial Information."
What if I lose a book?
Any book that is not returned in acceptable condition within 30 days
of check out accumulates a fine of $75.00, which is placed on the student's
account. There is no extra charge for replacing a book.
Can a book I have checked-out be renewed?
Book renewals are at the prerogative of the University. Under certain
conditions, some books may not be eligible for renewal due to student
demand.
Does the LRC have computers available for student use?
Yes! Amberton University has a computer lab equipped with the latest
in computer technology, high-speed printing and Internet access. These
computers are designed primarily for research purposes but are also
equipped with word processing applications. The lab is for Amberton
student use only. No password is required for access.
Is someone available to help with computer problems?
Library staff are available to answer questions about the University
computers and systems and to assist with printing syllabi and conducting
research. However, library personnel do not provide training on how
to use software applications. Amberton students are expected to be computer
literate and to possess a certain level of computer expertise prior
to enrolling.
How do I locate information my professor has placed
on reserve?
There are three types of reserves:
Shelf Reserve - These resources are designated "library use only"
so that all students may have access to them. They are shelved with
the regular collection but are not available for check out.
Reserve File - These are items that have been placed in a designated
area for student use. The Reserve File area is located in the LRC across
from the Check-Out Desk.
Electronic Reserve - These are files placed in the professor's
folder on-line for student use. These files are accessed via the University's
ftp site. Within this website, go to "Information Resources" and click
on "Access to FTP site." Then click on the folder showing the name of
your professor. The URL for the FTP site is: ftp://library.Amberton.edu
I am a distance-learning student and do not live within
driving distance of the campus. How can I access the research items
I need?
There are many opportunities for students enrolled in e-Courses to conduct
research.
1) Use the full-text, abstract and reference databases available through
the library website. The databases provide instant access to thousands
of journal articles, books, newspapers, and other reference sources.
These services are for Amberton student use only. An ID and password
are required. Instructions on how to access these services are located
on the "Information Resources" Menu.
2) For Texas residents, visit a library near you. TexShare card holders
can borrow books directly from any participating library. To obtain
a TexShare card, contact the library (library@Amberton.edu) for more
information.
3) Use Interlibrary Loan through your public library. Most public libraries
offer their patrons interlibrary loan service, borrowing items from
other libraries when they are not available locally.
4) Contact the Amberton Library for assistance. If you are having problems
obtaining particular item, please feel free to contact a librarian by
phone, email or fax. We will be happy to help you find what you need.
