CAMPUS CARRY LAW EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2016

On June 1, 2015, Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 11 passed by the 84th Texas Legislature and known as the “campus carry” law.

In response to this action, the Amberton University Campus Carry Committee (CCC) appointed by the President, is to report on comments from students, faculty, and staff regarding the implementation of S.B. 11. The Committee will provide their report to the President in March of 2016.

Amberton University has prepared an informational briefing to educate the Amberton community on the important aspects of the law. Please carefully read the information provided before submitting your comments. The briefing can be viewed at: http://www.amberton.edu/media/Files/au_campuscarry.pdf

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to contribute to the S.B. 11 discussion by emailing their comments to campuscarry@amberton.edu

It is important to note that the “Open Carry” law, which went into effect on January 1, 2016, does not affect S.B. 11, which provides for concealed carry only on college and university campuses.

Amberton University policies and procedures on S.B. 11 will be posted on the University’s website prior to the effective date of the law.
